A few minutes before the game, UK said that Willie Cauley-Stein wasn't going to play, and his status for Saturday's game is TBD.
Ole Miss at 6-0 was off to their best start in SEC history.
Alex Poythress dunked to tie the game at 2, but if you blinked twice, all of a sudden Poythress also had two fouls.
Then Julius Mays quickly picked up two fouls.
Then Ryan Harrow quickly had two fouls.
With 12:10 to go in the first half, UK had 9 fouls, Ole Miss picked up 4.
With 11:47 to go in the first half, Polson picks up his second foul as Ole Miss led 13-11.
With the game tied at 19, there were 21 fouls with UK having 11. Ole Miss was shooting 21% with UK hitting 35%. Ugly game.
Ole Miss goes up 26-22 with Ladarius White's three point play. White and Marshall Henderson have 23 of their 26.
Kyle Wiltjer played a great half. A beautiful pass to Archie Goodwin for the dunk to make it 35-32 Ole Miss. Then, after some slick passing by the Cats, Wiltjer hits a three to tie the game at 35.
It's 38-37 Ole Miss at the half.
Wiltjer has 17 points on 7 of 9 from the field.
Archie Goodwin has 10.
Nerlens can't hit a free throw. He's 2 of 8 but he has 6 rebounds and 5 blocked shots.
UK is awful at the free throw line hitting only 10 of 20.
UK is hitting 48%. Ole Miss is at 30% from the field.
Ole Miss has 5 players with at least two fouls and ended the half with 14 fouls. UK is in trouble with 12. Jarrod Polson has 3 fouls.
UK comes out on fire in the second half making 6 of their first 7 shots to grab a 53-46 lead. Wiltjer has almost half of the points with 26.
UK was on fire. They couldn't miss. Alex Poythress gave Kyle Wiltjer's right arm a break. His dunk with emotion makes it 71-56 UK. At this point, UK was shooting 58% from the field and 56% from the free throw line.
Ole Miss wakes up and goes on an 16-zip run to make it 73-72.
But the Cats showed some big time fight. Ryan Harrow, having a poor year from shooting three's hits a big one to make it 76-72.
Nerlens, who stopped playing defense after he picked up his fourth foul, got aggressive and starting swatting shots. He finished with a career high 12 blocks. What is incredible is that he had 5 blocks after picking up his 4th foul.
UK wins 87-74.
"They are starting to trust each other," Cal said after the game. "My point guard played great. I thought Alex was great. We are still not together yet."
Kyle Wiltjer finished with 26 points and 7 rebounds.
Alex Poythress had 15 points and 7 rebounds in only 20 minutes.
Archie Goodwin had 24 points.
UK shot 50% from the field and 62% from the free throw line.
