UK was battling foul trouble quickly, but it didn't stop this new team from jumping out on Maryland as they start the long road to defending their NCAA Championship.

It didn't take long for Kyle Wiltjer, Nerlens Noel, Ryan Harrow and Alex Poythress to pick up two fouls.

But, with the score 26-14 after Kyle hit one from downtown, UK had outscored Maryland's bench 13-0. It was 17-0 UK with the bench advantage at the half.

Archie Goodwin led UK with 13. Kyle Wiltjer hit some big 3's with 11. Jarrod Polson forced to play early because of foul trouble, looked comfortable and chipped in with 4.

Julius Mays had 7 and Willie Cauley-Stein who made some terrific hustling plays on defense had six.

UK leads 49-36 at the half.

When Nerlens Noel dunked, UK was in control 53-38. Maryland woke up and scored 15 in a row to tie the game at 53.

With the pressure on, Kyle Wiltjer hits a three to give UK the lead 56-53.

Maryland's Seth Allen hits a couple of 3's and the Terps take a 59-57 lead.

Jarrod Polson was clutch, hitting two shots inside to make it 67-63.

Kyle Wiltjer hits 2 free throws with 19 seconds to make it 70-66 UK.

Alex Len's gets the offensive rebound and makese it 70-68 with 8.9 seconds left.

Polson who had 10 points had ice in his veins. He hit 2 free throws with 7.7 seconds left to make it 72-69 UK. UK hangs on to win 72-69.
