UK may be struggling on the court a bit early this season, but coach John Calipari is continuing his torrid recruiting, as the player ranked as No. 1 in the class of 2015 announced he will play college ball at the University of Kentucky Tuesday, and will actually enter college in 2014 instead.
Karl Towns announced his decision during a press conference at St. Joseph's High School in Metuchen, N.J.
Calipari and Towns know each other well. The 7-footer played for Calipari over the summer as a member of the Dominican Republic's national team.
An excellent student, Towns said Tuesday he would reclassify for the class of 2014.
As a freshman at St. Joseph, Towns averaged 12 points and 10 rebounds per game. He also blocked nearly four shots per game. The big-man obviously poses an intimidating presence at the post position, but he can also hit the outside shot. He drained 63 three-pointers last season.
