Sitting down with Mark Stoops for a one on one interview was fun. The feeling is obvious. He knows what has to be done and how to do it. The million dollar question is, can he do it?
The way his first recruiting class went, if this continues, the talent level will not only get much better, but it will also give Stoops a chance to turn UK Football around.
Why is Stoops such a good coach?
Many in new role as a head coach might be uncomfortable with that question. Stoops had no problem. He gives the credit to his parents. Especially what his father told him growing up.
"Be who you are," says Stoops.
"I can't pretend to be anybody who I'm not. I think I've been around coaching and I've been around good people all my life. Starting with my mother and father. My dad didn't try to be anything he wasn't. He was a defensive coordinator. He was quite content doing what he did. He worked extremely hard. He was a great man of great integrity and I think he taught me the right example from a very early age."
Mark Stoops is on a honeymoon. That's the way it's supposed to be with a new coach who just happens to be easy to root for.
