When it comes to being mentally tough, Archie Goodwin might be number one on this year's Cats.
He's struggling, hitting only one of his last 20 shots from downtown. He admits it and expects this problem, where his average is four points less in conference games, will soon be over. He refuses to let it effect his confidence.
"I love playing big games," said Goodwin as UK is ready to play at Florida. "And these are the type of games I know I was made for and this team is made for."
Goodwin's career high is 28 against Morehead State. In some big games, he had 22 against Louisville and in his second game, tossed in 16 against Duke. He believes he's a great player who is finding his way back to being great.
"I just have to react more like I was doing early in the season."
Being ranked 25th doesn't impress UK's leading scorer who doesn't watch college basketball on TV. He came to Lexington with a purpose. True Blue fans might have given up on that goal for this season, but don't tell that to Goodwin.
"I'm pretty sure the number one spot. That's what we're aiming for right now."
Sometimes the schedule is your friend. Kentucky wasn't ready to play at Florida three weeks ago. Now, they are ready. Will it be good enough? Who knows. We do know that the toughness level for the Cats is much better, but that still needs to improve.
