Joker gave the company line at media day. He wants to name a starting quarterback as soon as possible.

To the player you could easily call the forgotten one. Morgan Newton. Many thought by now he'd be a star in the SEC. Today he wants to show the world that his shoulder is okay and he's ready to be the starting quarterback.

"I don't know about expect," says Morgan. "That's what I'm really really working towards. So, whatever way that happens. I don't know what the coaches have in mind. I don't know that. Obviously there are a lot of things that go into picking a quarterback. And I've been on both sides of this deal. I was once the quarterback that played when somebody got hurt not to long ago. I know how it goes. I just want a chance to show what I can do. I just want an opportunity. I just want a fair opportunity. Thats all I want."

There was a lot of hype when Morgan was recruited. His play hasn't equaled the hype. Then you have surgery on your throwing shoulder. He wasn't sure he'd every play again.

"I think for anybody who has a major surgery, there is always that fear. So sometimes I was like I don't know if I will ever be able to throw again. There are tough days. I worked really hard. I put in a ton of hours so I feel good about where I'm out."

Newton was often waiting to get into UK facility early in the morning before Joker. He's worked really hard to get back.

If there is one thing about Morgan we've learned through the years is that he is a mature student-athlete. He's a tough kid. It seems obvious that the odds are stacked against him, but perhaps you shouldn't count him out.
