Morgan Newton showed a good sense of humor while we talked about how he's playing this year.

Joker says that Morgan, who is UK's second leading rusher with 123 yards in two games, runs better than UK's tight ends.

"I think it would be more of a compliment if he said better than some of the running backs or receivers," says UK's starting quarterback.

"Thanks Coach Joker I appreciate it."

After we laughed, it's obvious that Morgan believes he runs better than the tight ends. And no, he wasn't throwing them under the bus.

Joker is Joker. The boss can say anything he wants. You never know what Joker is going to say.

"You don't. You don't. You just kind of go with it. He's the man. You just go with it."

Morgan believes UK is really close to making something happen on offense.

"A lot of near misses. To the average fan, or whoever is watching, we're really close on a lot of plays. We're close to 3 or 4 touchdowns in each game. Tune those things up, 3 or 4 touchdowns is 21 or 28 points. That's just all it's been. You just got to fine tune."

For most athletes, it's a work in progress deal. Morgan is not a finished product. Fans expect a finished product. Sometimes that's not fair.

"Fair or not fair you play on Saturday regardless of what happens. And I think everyone is blossoming together so. This is the 2011 UK football team and we'll continue to improve together. As best as we can improve and as fast as we can improve, the better. That's all we're trying to do."

This week, besides getting ready for Louisville, Newton is working on not throwing the ball so hard on his short passes. He's working on the touch he puts on his shorts passes.
