Kentucky's Nerlens Noel, a 6-foot-10, 244-pound freshman forward from Everett, Mass., was named SEC Freshman of the Week after averaging 11 points, nine rebounds and 6.5 blocks in wins over Tennessee and at Auburn.

Nerlens had 12 points, nine rebounds, six blocks and four steals in a win over Tennessee and followed that up with 10 points, nine rebounds and seven blocks at Auburn.

Noel has grabbed six or more rebounds in every game this season.

Noel is the only player standing 6-5 or taller that ranks in the top-30 in blocks, steals and rebounds in the nation. He moved into fifth all-time in UK freshman record books with 69 blocks on the season and is one shy of cracking the single-season top-10 in school history.

On Monday mornings SEC teleconference, Cal said he didn't know if Willie Cauley-Stein's knee will allow him to play against Alabama Tuesday night.

Cal had some kind words for Alex Poythress saying that his effort against Auburn was 20-25% better. He compared Alex's effort problems to the great Marcus Camby who had a similar problem as a freshman playing for Cal at UMass.

Cal was also happy with Archie Goodwin. Not only was his shot selection better against Auburn but he "took pride in defense," says Cal.
