The Lafayette High School boys' basketball team got off to a slow start, dropping four of its first six games.

But since then, the Generals have won five-of-six, their only loss in that span, a 2-point defeat to Edgewater, Fla. Lafayette knocked off Tates Creek 73-52 on Friday and followed up with a 83-59 victory over Southwestern Saturday to improve to 7-5.

Generals' coach Mark Mendenhall says he thinks his team is on the right track and can compete with the best in Kentucky.

"I say we can play with anybody in the state," he said. "We've got length, we've got size, we've got athleticism, we're deep; I think when we put all those things together and play with confidence, we're gonna be hard to beat."

Lafayette also has the services of one of the best juniors in the state.

Jackson Davis scored 21 points and ripped down 12 rebounds in the win over Tates Creek Friday night.

"Oh man, we're unstoppable when we're all playing on all cylinders," he said after the game. "We came out a little big sluggish, but we got some good help off the bench and we're starting to click as a team. And I feel like we're getting better every game."

The 6-foot-8, 210 pound forward followed up with a 28-point, nine-rebound game against Southwestern. On the season, Jackson averages 18.5 points, 11.6 rebounds and 2.5 blocks per game.

Next up for Lafayette: Bryan Station at home on Jan 8. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
