Kentucky Beats WKU 81-66 In NCAA Opener

Top seed Kentucky beat No. 16 seed Western Kentucky 81-66 in the opening round of the NCAA tournament Thursday night at the KFC Yum! Center in Louisville.

Terrence Jones notched a double-double with 22 points and 10 rebounds and Anthony Davis flirted with a triple double, finishing with 16 points, 9 rebounds and a new UK NCAA tournament single-game record 7 blocks.

Doron Lamb added 16 points and Marquis Teague 12 for the Wildcats.

Kentucky jumped out to a 10-0 lead but Western Kentucky rallied to go ahead 12-10 at the 14:31 mark. T.J. Price scored 10 of the Hilltoppers' 12 points in the run on his way to a team high-21 point game.

UK responded with an 8-0 run to take the lead for good. Kentucky led 45-26 at halftime and increased the lead to 32 points in the second half.

Former Clark Co. standout and UK commit Vinny Zollo played 13 minutes for WKU but did not score.

Kentucky will face the winner of No. 8 Connecticut and No. 9 Iowa State Saturday in the round of 32.
