Florida State head coach Jimbo Fisher said when he hired Mark Stoops in 2010, he knew this would be a possibility. He said he knew Mark was a good coach who would someday get his opportunity.
That opportunity came at the University of Kentucky.
"I'm very proud of him, very happy for him. He got an opportunity to move on and further his career. That's something he wants to do and I'm happy for him, elated for him," said Fisher after Florida State's practice Tuesday.
The 'Noles are getting ready for Georgia Tech Saturday night in the ACC championship game, a game that Stoops will coach in. Fisher said when the players heard the news today, they were excited for Stoops. They have a great respect and love for him. Fisher says he'll miss his defensive coodinator too.
"I think he's a hard worker. I think he cares about what he does, I think he's very diligent about what he does. He has a lot of passion for what he does and he truly loves coaching," Fisher said of Stoops.
Fisher said as of right now, he knows of no other assistants that plan to join Stoops at UK.
